Online Education Community: Edutopia
Teaching is a profession which relies heavily on peer mentorship. No two students are the same and with each new day comes a new variety of situations for the teacher to navigate. Without a reserve of resources for teachers to use in the moment when disaster strikes (or better yet, adventure calls), teachers can easily find themselves overwhelmed with the task of keeping their class on track to accomplish goals.

Edutopia is a creation of the George Lucas Foundation, with the purpose of sharing "what works" in K-12 education through a focus on core strategies. These strategies include project-based learning, social and emotional learning, comprehensive assessment, integrated studies, teacher development, and technology integration.
The site provides many ideas for student engagement, lesson planning, classroom management, and more. Through the site, educators gain access to a world wide community of educators sharing expertise as well as peers seeking support for their own classrooms.

The site is easily navigable through these core strategies and one can find an array of resources for each, ranging from videos to articles and community discussion boards. This is definitely a good find for any teacher or parent interested in more effectively engaging their students in active learning!
